Three ways you can help without donating

Many Americans wish to help those in need by sending money. Money is important. But many of Myanmar’s problems are God-sized matters of the heart that money alone can’t address. Sins like hatred, pride, unforgiveness, idolatry, and greed have crippled the country for decades. Without experiencing a change of heart, those receiving money alone will never experience the fullness of life that Jesus promised.

  1. Pray. Please pray for the people of Myanmar, that many lives may be transformed by the gospel of grace extended to all through Jesus Christ.
  2. Locate individuals in your community who are from Myanmar. Let them know that they and their families are not alone, and that you are interested in hearing about their lives and goals.
  3. Read up on current events happening in this part of the world. While the recent earthquake briefly focused attention on Myanmar, the Western news cycle has already moved on, forgetting that recovery efforts will take years. Allow yourself to feel what life might be like for those touched by war or natural disaster. And ask God to show you how you might use this information to serve those living in Myanmar, or even here in America where many Burmese refugees have fled. God can surprise you by knitting your hearts to a people group you never suspected you would love. It has happened to us, and it can happen to you.
